5V CRIMP & MILLENIUM-V INSTALLATION GUIDE

Step 1: Make sure the deck is level and square. Batten strips are optional in new construction and reproofing over shingles. Roof decking integrity should be checked to insure adequate pull out in any reproofing application. Shingles can not be battened over if more than two layers of shingles are present. Apply batten strips according to Detail A. Battens are to be 1x 3 yellow pipe according to ASCE 793 Standard. Benton Metal Depot recommends 30# felt to be applied as a condensation barrier. Attachment of felt shall be in compliance with building codes for area. An additional layer of #15 felt must be used as separation sheet if attachment of felt paper is to be done with tin tab.
Step 2: Install Eave Drips and valley according to details. Trim should be fastened 12" OC or 8" on center depending on zone location. Remember to use inside closure strips between Eave and Panel to eliminate water infiltration.
Step 3: Panel placement should begin on the gable end opposite of the prevailing wind. Starter edge of the panel will be the lap edge. (Opposite of anti-siphon edge). After laying first panel check for squareness. Panel 2 should be lapped over anti-siphon groove of Panel 1. (See Detail B) A minimum of 1" overhang is required at eave. Alternative method of panel placement may begin in the center of the roof. This method involves centering the center point of the panel and working out to the gable or exterior edges. Often this method is used when the area covered is not divisible by 2' or traditional placement allows for a pipe flashing to occur in a side lap. Endlaps must be a minimum of 12" and two strips of Butyl Sealant is recommended 8" on uphill side of lap to keep watertight.
Step 4: Fasten panel according to Detail C or D depending on the area of application. Note that ASCE-798 requires additional screws in the flat area of the pan at all Ridge, Eaves, and Endlap areas. Benton Metal Depot recommends a #9 x 1-1/2 Wood Fastener. (Ultimate or Zacs are recommended on all warranteed jobs or coastal applications). Field attachment should be 16" on center. Trim Fastening should be increased to 6" on center in high wind areas.
NOTE: Fastening in the flat of the panel is recognized as an alternative method of attachment and is acceptable in all areas which do not require PA-125 better known as Dade County testing.
Step 5: Any field cutting must be done with metal nibblers, metal snips, or blades designed for metal cutting. No cutting should be done on roof, as it will cause iron shavings to be spread and adhere to roof panels. Proper cutting should be done exposed panel side down and field swept to remove iron debris.
Step 6: Install remaining accessories such as pip boots, 5-V profile vent, ridge caps, and gable flashing. Butyl sealant and caulking are necessary to maintain watertight seals. Also inspect screw fasteners to insure that they are installed properly (See Detail G).
Step 7: Field clean the roof surface with a broom to be sure any iron shavings are removed.
PITCH STRUCTURAL ALERT! 5V REQUIRES 3/12 PITCH TO MAINTAIN WATER DRAINAGE. THIS PANEL MUST BE INSTALLED OVER SOLID DECKING AS IT IS NON STRUCTURAL. APPROVED DECK SUBSTRATES INCLUDE 5/8" PLYWOOD OR OSB BOARD. FIRE BARRIERS SUCH AS DENSDECK AND ROCKTEC MAY ALSO BE REQUIRED FOR CERTAIN PROJECTS.
ATTENTION INSTALLER!! WHEN USING FASTENERS TO PENETRATE STEEL SHEETS THE IRON PARTICLES TEND TO GO AIRBORNE AND SETTLE ON THE SHEET. IT IS NECESSARY TO REMOVE THESE PARTICLES TO PREVENT EMBEDMENT AND RUST MARKS.

HIGH WIND CONSIDERATION
Benton Metal Depot has achieved PA 125 testing better know as Dade County on 5V Crimp. This test includes UL 580 Class 90 testing. The testing installation was done on 5/8" plywood with a fire barrier. The plywood was attached by a #9 nail / 6" on center and 4" on perimeter area. 26 gauge 5V Crimp panels were attached 12" on center with a #9" x 1-1/2 Fastener and 6" on the perimeter. Please request a copy of PA 125 installation instructions if required for your area.
